Barcelona, a city that never sleeps, but sometimes passes out. There live amazing people, it has delicious food, beautiful architecture, a lot of culture, a Sunny beach,… It has everything. It’s my favorite city in the world!

CITY

Bunkers (del Carmen): One of the best and most beautiful secret spots of Barcelona are “the bunkers”. It has a 360° amazing view over the city. The atmosphere is relax and it’s a great escape from all the tourists. Just chill out with some friends, buy a bottle of wine, some snacks and enjoy a beautiful sunset. It’s one of my most favorite places in the world!

 – Go for a walk in the neighborhoods ‘El Gotico’ and ‘El Born’. Get lost in the small streets and end up in the Ciutadella Park. Don’t miss the beautiful square Plaça Reial and eat some tapas on your way.

 – Flamenco: If you want to enjoy some Spanish culture, go to see Los Tarantos in the club Jamboree at Plaça Real.  It’s a 40 min flamenco show with passionate dancers and Spanish guitar music. For only 10 euro (or 8 euro if you book online).10342756_10203733471156111_2801598921804050896_n

 – The magic fountain of Montjuic: The fountain dances on the rhythm of the music with a spectacular lightshow. It’s free and will give you a magical feeling. During summer it’s every Thursday until Sunday 9pm -11.30pm. During winter it’s every Friday and Saturday from 7pm-8.30pm.

SPANISH FOOD

There are so many good places to eat in Barcelona but please avoid the touristic restaurants and bars close to the Ramblas. They are expensive and not that good. 10344854_10203733479436318_1857524102958340774_n

 – La Bodega Biarritz: my number 1 favorite place to eat. This small and cosy tapas bar has delicious typical Spanish food and it’s cheap. All the tapas are displayed on the counter. There is no complicated menu, you just point at what you want and they’ll prepare it for you. They also have great strawberry mojito’s. If you’re hungry go in time cause there might be a waiting line.

 – Senzi: Top quality food. A little bit more expensive but definitely worth it.

 – Taller de Tapas: They have a lot of choice and different restaurants spread out in Barcelona.

 – La Boqueria: The best market in the world! Here you can find anything you want. Go to the stands in the back or the middle for cheaper prices. There are heeps of tourists and it can be very busy so watch out for pick-pockets. 1601447_10203733453435668_4900095317299797715_n

PARTY

Nightlife in Barcelona starts late. Bars are open around 10pm until 2 or 3am. The best time to go to the club is around 2am. In Barcelona you don’t have to worry about finding a party. There are heeps of clubs and when the night falls, promoters will lead 10309257_10203733420794852_7903669021693596606_nyou to them. You can go out every night of the week and there is always something to do. If you want to be on a list or get in for free just ask me 🙂.

 – Beach: If you want to start your party during the day, go to the beach in summer. There are a lot of bars or just bring your own box of sangria and put on some music. If you’re lazy you don’t even have to get up cause people will come to you and sell you mojitos or beer. Isn’t that great?! The best place to go is next to the cubes where a lot of promotors and young people hang out. This is the metal artwork in form of cubes piled on each other.

– Leche de Pantera: If you want to drink something you’ve never tried before go to this place. They invented a special alcoholic drink made of milk and licor. It sounds weird but it’s actually quite tasty.

Chupitos: A bar where you can choose out of more than 600 chupitos (= shots). A good warm up, for a crazy night. Cause no good story starts with a water, right?

– Sub rosa: A nice and cosy bar close to Plaça reial.

– El cyrrano: Next to chupitos in the neighborhood Eixample. If you really wanna get drunk. This bar has self-service so you can make your drink as strong as you want. They also have free popcorn.

– El bosque de las hadas: The forest of the fairies. Enter this place and you feel like you’re in a fairytale. The authentic decoration in this bar and atmosphere makes you feel magical.

 – La Terrazza: An outdoor club with an open rooftop on the mountain of Montjuic. Dance all night underneath the stars and enjoy some good house music.tillllateMarcFer

Beach clubs: Most tourists go to the clubs next to the commercial beach such as opium, CDLC, Shoko,… It’s nice to check them out for once but the best clubs you find more in town such as Kerr, Jamboree, La Terrazza,…

W hotel: This is the big hotel on the beach in the shape of a sail. They organize fancy parties on the 26th floor. You need to be on a list to get in and wear fancy clothes and high heels (for the girls). Just go there for the amazing view.

SHOPPING

– There are a lot of good places to shop but my favorite neighborhood is ‘El Gotico’. You’ll find vintage and local shops as well as commercial stores. The more expensive street and good for window shopping is in Avinguda Diagonal in ‘Eixample’.

GETTING FROM AND TO THE AIRPORT

Getting from the airport into the city center is easy and cheap. Most tourists take the blue aerobus but you can also just take the public bus like the locals. It takes maybe five minutes longer (+- 25min) but it’s way cheaper (only 2,30 euro). When you get out of the airport (terminal 2) you just go right and walk to the bus stop which says ’46 centro’. Buses come every 10 minutes and brings you to Plaça Español where you can take the subway to everywhere else. It’s bus 46 and it’s red, you can’t miss it. There is also one that goes to the other terminal of the airport but you just jump on the one that says ‘centro’. If you want to get back to the airport you can also take this bus 46 back at Plaça Español. If it’s nighttime you go to Plaça Catalunya and take the nightbus N17 to go to the airport. Don’t believe cap drivers if they say that there is no night bus cause there is, they just want your money.

So if you can’t wait anymore to eat your belly full of tapas, check out Gaudi’s masterpieces and enjoy some sangria at the beach than book a trip with Stoke Travel. You stay at a fun hostel in the city center and get free club entry, walking tour and choose one the activities such as a cooking class, boatparty, bike tour or flamenco show.

=> Note: These are just a few of the awesome things that Barcelona has to offer. If you think there is something that definitely should be mentioned in this article, feel free to let me know 🙂.

 xoxo
